A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has set an October 21 hearing over whether grand jury transcripts in the murder case against Nick Reiner should remain sealed.

The date was scheduled during a brief October 7 courtroom appearance, according to NBC Los Angeles. The dispute concerns records from the secret grand jury proceeding that produced an indictment against Reiner in the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer-producer Michele Singer Reiner.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced in August that a grand jury indictment charged Reiner with two counts of murder and special-circumstance allegations. Prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty. The indictment replaced the need for a preliminary hearing, where evidence would ordinarily be presented in public before a trial determination.

The October 21 proceeding is expected to address the defense request to keep the transcripts sealed and opposition from media organizations seeking access, NBC Los Angeles reported. It is not a trial date and does not resolve the murder charges.

Reiner has pleaded not guilty. The criminal charges remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
