On September 25, 2007, at 1:35 in the morning, officers in the Los Angeles Police Department Traffic Division arrested actor Kiefer Sutherland for suspicion of driving under the influence. The officers pulled Sutherland over after witnessing him making an illegal U-turn in West Los Angeles. Earlier in the evening the actor attended a Fox Network party. It was the second time in three years that Sutherland had been arrested for DUI, and the fourth alcohol-related offense on his record. Sutherland was booked at the Hollywood police station around 4 am, and was released before 6 am after meeting $25,000 bail.
At his October trial, Sutherland pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08% in a plea deal that saw another misdemeanor charge dropped. As part of the plea deal, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office recommended that Sutherland be sentenced to 48 days in the suburban Glendale City Jail, sparing the actor from serving his term in the more crowded and dangerous Los Angeles County Jail.
This mugshot was taken not upon Sutherland’s arrest, but rather when he surrendered himself to begin serving his 48 day sentence at Glendale City Jail on Wednesday, December 5, 2007. He was scheduled to perform kitchen and laundry duty
