Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment affiliates filed a new federal copyright complaint against AI-music company Suno in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. The suit identifies 60,202 sound recordings and alleges that Suno copied and used them without authorization in developing and operating its generative-music models.
The complaint also challenges Suno’s recently released v6 models, alleging they were developed using outputs and user-preference data from earlier models that the labels contend were trained on unlicensed recordings. The plaintiffs seek damages, injunctive relief and a jury trial. Suno has characterized the labels’ broader claims as legally and factually flawed.
