Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been formally charged with driving under the influence in Scottsdale, Arizona, months after his March traffic-stop arrest.
Court records cited by AZFamily and the Associated Press show that prosecutors filed a misdemeanor complaint against Brooks in Scottsdale City Court. The charge is a Class 1 misdemeanor, and his arraignment is scheduled for October 28.
Brooks was arrested on suspicion of DUI on March 6 after Scottsdale police stopped the vehicle he was driving near Scottsdale and Thunderbird roads. AZFamily reported that a police report alleged the vehicle repeatedly moved in and out of its lane before the stop.
The Associated Press, reporting through NBC Sports, said the Suns acknowledged the development in a statement from senior vice president of communications Stacey Mitch, who said the charge stemmed from the March incident and that the organization had addressed the matter with Brooks. The team did not provide further comment.
A criminal charge is not a conviction. Brooks has not entered a plea in the newly filed DUI case, and the allegation will be tested through the court process.
